In February 2024 Cecilia Paredes added one more artwork to the exhibition, 不~在家: Cecilia Paredes (October 25, 2023 – June 2, 2024). 空中的愿望 is a collaborative piece that consists of wishes for the future collected from members of our campus community. These are interspersed with wishes that Paredes has collected when producing similar iterations of the piece around the world. Not only does the artwork include the words of our community, but it was made in situ with members of our community.

不~在家 features the work of Peruvian-born, 费城-based artist Cecilia Paredes in conversation with archaeological materials from Peru in special collections. The themes of domesticity, 性别, 和 diaspora across her practices of photography, 表演, 和 sculpture also prompt questions of restitution 和 repatriation – where 首页 is 和 might be for these artifacts.

This exhibition is presented with (重新)集中, a 费城 festival recognizing women-identified 和 BIPOC artists through exhibitions, 面板, 讲座, 研讨会, 和更多的.

This exhibition, organized by Grace Foresman (BMC '24) 和 刘奕涵(BMC '23) as the newest contribution to the Who Built Bryn Mawr? 项目, explores the early history of Japanese 和 Chinese students at Bryn Mawr, a history colored by prevailing stereotypes about East Asian people that were circulating on Bryn Mawr’s campus, 费城, 和 the country at large. At the turn of the 20th century, Bryn Mawr began accepting Chinese 和 Japanese students through designated scholarship programs. But were these programs actually intended to benefit Asian students? What would their experiences have been like?​
